Charlie Kirk Was a Good Man with a Strong Faith
The week of September 10, 2025, was a hard one for Christians in the USA, especially for Charlie Kirk’s close family members and friends. Charlie Kirk was an American political activist and author, as well as a beloved husband to Erika Kirk and a father to two children. His faith in God was rich and real. Kirk had a heart for people and families.
He graduated from Harper College, so he was familiar with what college students face daily—from lessons in the classroom to peer pressure from classmates. This led him to visit colleges across America, engaging students in peaceable debates about his faith and about Jesus. He knew both American history and the Bible well, and in conversations with colleagues he listened carefully and answered thoughtfully.
Charlie Kirk was host of The Charlie Kirk Show and founder of Turning Point USA. He accomplished much in his time, but above all he should be honored for his bravery and faith. Before his death, Charlie Kirk wanted to be remembered for his courage and his faith. Erika Kirk, his widow, testified:
“Charlie Kirk wanted to be remembered for his courage and his faith.”
How can we honor Charlie Kirk and keep the movement going?
Keep the Flame Going
Charlie Kirk was a man on fire for the Lord. He lived by conviction and shared his faith and the Gospel with others, including his colleagues. Matthew 5:10–12 reads:
“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
What happened on September 10, 2025, to Charlie Kirk was a form of persecution because of his faith in Jesus. This should not frighten Christians away from boldness, but instead encourage us to press forward, standing united. Jesus told us that the world would hate us, because it first hated Him (John 15:18). We are called the salt and light of the world (Matt. 5:13–16), and we must not hide our light under a bushel.
The Beatitudes in Matthew 5:10–12 contain both a promise and an encouragement for those persecuted for Christ. We are to rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is our reward in heaven.
We are blessed when we are mistreated, mocked, abused, and rejected for the sake of Christ. This is not guilt by association but blessing by abiding in Christ. Jesus overcame the world (John 16:33), and greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). This assurance belongs to Christians everywhere. God gives us the power to live boldly for Christ.
Remember the Reformers—both men and women—who stood for the Gospel, many of them at the cost of their lives. The Apostles, too, stood courageously and proclaimed the truth, as seen in Acts and the Pauline epistles. Their example teaches us to live with conviction. Christians today must also stand for truth. This is not the time to cower but to rise up, speaking the truth in love. It is more than a movement—it is a spiritual battle.
Paul exhorted Timothy, “Fight the good fight of faith” (1 Tim. 6:12). This is a call to perseverance, to discipline, to hold on to truth, and to pursue godliness. It reminds us that Christians are engaged in spiritual warfare, both internal and external. This is how we keep the flame going—by fighting faithfully:
- We have the Holy Spirit sealed within us; we can rely on Him.
- We focus on Christ and Christ alone (Solus Christus).
- We study and apply God’s Word diligently in our lives.
- We pursue the kingdom of God and His righteousness.
- We pray—for the lost, for God’s will to be done, for victory over sin, for repentance, and to see His glory revealed.
This is how Christians fight. Charlie Kirk understood this, and Christians everywhere can follow the same path.
The Church Is Not Silenced
Persecution does not silence the church—it grows it. We should honor our brother in Christ, Charlie Kirk, by remembering both the message he stood for and the way he lived. His testimony should ignite in us the courage to stand, to speak, and to share our faith unapologetically. Perhaps his example may even spark another Reformation.
Our cry should be the same as Romans 1:16:
“I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
Charlie Kirk was unashamed of the Gospel. He proclaimed the Good News without fear of man or embarrassment. The church likewise rests in God’s power and is called to bold faith in a hostile world.
One of Charlie Kirk’s oft-quoted lines,
“Jesus defeated death so you can live,”
has been widely shared on social media. Yet it remains more than a slogan—it is a message of truth. Christians need not fear death, for we are alive in Christ. Charlie Kirk fulfilled his calling and served the Lord faithfully. May his life convict and inspire you to live boldly for God, as we are commanded and encouraged to do.
